Stone Mountain, Georgia

An 825 ft lump of granite named Stone mountain stands just East of Decatur, Atlanta's latest gentrified neighborhood.

Carvings of confederate leaders Robert E Lee, Stonewall Jackson and Richardson Davis (Left to right) were designed by Gutzon Borglum, the famous American sculptor and klansman known for creating Mount Rushmore. 

Using dynamite, pickaxes and a special lantern to shine the design on the rock, the background was cut into the rock leaving the characters in front. The actual carved area is 160 ft wide x 76 ft tall making it the largest bas relief carving in the world.

With 4 million yearly visitors, Stone mountain park is the 3rd most visited park in the USA, after Disney World and Disney Land.

In the winter months a sledding hill with fake snow operates under the confederate monument.

The Stone Mountain park also includes a large sprawling lake, golf course, operating train and hotel.
